At the start of the UK lockdown we surveyed our members to better understand the impact of COVID-19 and what would be needed from the charity during the pandemic and post lockdown.
Concerns from our members included:
- Catching COVID-19.
- Needing to self isolate.
- Feeling vulnerable and concerned about shielding.
- Employment and income beyond furlough.
- Loss of income.
- Access to medical professionals.
- Worries about post lockdown.
- Anxiety.
- Mental Health.
Actions taken by the charity included:
- Increasing the freephone helpline to 7 days.
- Patient Coordinator contacting members directly.
- Online virtual support groups rolled out.
- Regular updates from the EDS Service.
- Conference postponed until 2022.
- Dedicated COVID-19 information page.
- Volunteers deployed where needed.
- CEO joins the Royal Voluntary Service.
- Mental Health and financial advice support from July 2020.
